The controversial dog breeding farm of Jan Paridaans (69) from Eersel was rightly closed in 2024. That is the ruling of the Trade Appeals Board (CBb) in The Hague on Tuesday afternoon.

The cases on which the CBb ruled on Tuesday concern the period 2023 and 2024. According to the CBb, the dog breeder committed ‘structurally serious violations’ of the law during that period. As a result, Paridaans endangered the health of his animals, especially dogs.

In March 2024, the breeding farm was permanently closed and the last 160 dogs were confiscated. The breeder does not agree with the closure of his company and denies that he has broken the rules. The CBb does not agree with this now.

The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has found several violations at the Eersel dog breeding farm since 2019. These reports ‘provide a shocking picture of the conditions in which the animals were kept’, according to the CBp.

The infamous dog breeder Jan Paridaans (69) from Eersel was sentenced to fifteen months in prison earlier this year, ten of which were conditional. Paridaans’ company must pay a fine of 40,000 euros. Paridaans’ ex-wife, Stephanie Dul (50), received a ten-month suspended prison sentence and 200 hours of community service for her role.

The list of shortcomings that the NVWA found at the breeding farm was lengthy: dirty cages, full of urine and feces, too many dogs per cage, too few dry and clean bedding areas, no or dirty drinking water, scabs and wounds, contaminated and matted coats, skin and eye disorders, cages with broken food bowls, protruding screws, skinny dogs, tartar and much more.
