Racism incidents: Second division team takes action

After two racist incidents by their fans, Eintracht Braunschweig is taking action. The supporters are banned from the stadium.
Shortly before the derby against Hannover 96 on Sunday, Eintracht Braunschweig sent a clear signal: two club supporters will no longer be allowed to enter a stadium in Germany for the next two years. The club announced this on Friday.
The background is two right-wing extremist incidents that have occurred in recent months. As the second division team explained, an Eintracht player was racially insulted in the main stand on October 3rd after the home game against SC Paderborn. The club left it open who was affected.
Around two months earlier, on August 9th, after Braunschweig’s home game against Greuther Fürth, an Eintracht supporter “used xenophobic insults, bodily harm and used National Socialist slogans” on a bus. In both cases, the police responsible began investigations and initiated criminal proceedings.
The club’s tolerance ends “when people are, for example, racially insulted or National Socialist slogans are chanted,” the statement said. “Eintracht Braunschweig stands for cohesion, diversity and respect.”
