Despite superiority and a longer surcharge, the 1st FC Magdeburg lost to Eintracht Braunschweig at the start of the 2nd Bundesliga.
The team from Lower Saxony, long in the relegation, won 1-0 (0-0) on Sunday and was the only away team to score points on the first match day.
Mehmet Can Aydin scored the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute. From the 54th minute after a red card against Kevin Ehlers, Braunschweig played outnumbered.
New trainer at Magdeburg and Braunschweig
Both teams competed with new trainers, both moved from third division teams to the higher league. At the Magdeburgers, Markus Fiedler, who came from VfB Stuttgart II, followed Christian Titz, who switched to Ligarival Hannover 96. On the side of the Braunschweiger, Heiner Backhaus is now responsible. He trained Alemannia Aachen last season.
Backhaus said afterwards at the Sportschau microphone: “I thought in the first ten to 15 minutes: Wow, what a level! This is my first second division game as a coach, I come from the third division, that’s not comparable.” The victory was happy, but not undeserved because of the mentality of his team.
Fiedler, on the other hand, was served: “It was a very bitter afternoon for us, unnecessarily given away points. Certainly the handling of the red card also played a role. We could not develop the force that could then have been expected.”
Two chances for Magdeburg’s Kaars
Magdeburg was the better team right from the start, which also came to good opportunities from her possession game. Silas Gnaka, for example, played a perfect steep pass into the course of Martijn Kaars, who hit the left post from a half -right position (27th).
A few minutes later, the striker was surprised that he was free to get the ball in front of goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann. So only the chance for a quick end without control remained, the ball rolled past half a meter past the goal.

It was shortly shortly before the break, because a cross from Lubambo Musonda landed on the outer post because Kaars just missed her with her head.
Magdeburg’s Hoti with problems and quick replacement
The only problem on the defensive of the FCM was before the break that Andi Hoti received a yellow card early and another foul committed, after which Eintracht already asked for a dismissal, referee Tom Bauer argued that the offense was too harmless to a second yellow card. Fiedler saw the danger and changed the central defender against Tobias Müller after a good half an hour.
Red card for Braunschweig’s Ehlers
The second half started with a slight delay because a goal net still had to be patched. It was the network in the gate of the Magdeburg, which was still much more dangerous to be driven out. Magdeburg remained decisive and with far more degrees.
From the 54th minute, the European Cup winner from 1974 was also outnumbered. Kevin Ehlers wanted to make up for a technical mistake, but the tackle with an open sole became a rough foul against Marcus Mathisen. The Braunschweiger immediately apologized and trotted guilty.
Aydin hits Eintracht with a long -range shot
But as it is from time to time, the outnumbered was more difficult for the Magdeburgers. Braunschweig, which started aggressive and early at the beginning, withdrew.
With one of the few counterattacks, even the winning goal was scored. Aydin, switched from FC Schalke 04 to Eintracht in summer, shot from more than 30 meters away. The ball rates out the net next to the right post.
