Boy rescued by fire brigade after his brother locks him in a trash can: ‘Just a little panic’ | Inland

The boy was playing with his brother when they discovered that a waste bin was not properly closed. “It was probably just emptied and not closed properly,” says news photographer Maurice Hamming, who came to the report of the fire brigade.

At first he didn’t understand why the fire brigade turned out for a trash can that showed nothing special. “Around the trash can, his parents and brother were talking to the trash can. That’s not right,” he thought. A little closer he saw that someone was trapped inside.

The boy decided to sit in the trash after he and his brother challenged each other. No sooner said than done, but then his brother thought it would be a good idea to close the door. “He just didn’t know that he was locking it in the garbage like this,” says Hamming. This caused a moment of panic in the young man’s eyes, the photographer heard from his mother. “But soon the little boy understood that he would be rescued by the fire brigade; then he managed to relax more.”

His parents called the fire brigade who could easily free him with the help of a key. The fire brigade has different keys for containers and trash cans, which saved a lot of hassle on Tuesday. But first, at his mother’s insistence, he happily took a picture in the trash with a thumbs up and a grin on his face.

Marko Kinderman, spokesperson for the Friesland fire service, calls it a unique situation for the fire service. Even though it was clear from the start that this was not a dangerous situation. “We knew the boy was uninjured and approachable and that he could laugh about it.” In the end, everyone could laugh at the situation. “It’s nice for the fire brigade to have something like this in between. And the boys have a good story at school,” he emphasizes.

In the end, the boy escaped unharmed and he and the other spectators were rewarded with a firefighters demonstration with flashing blue lights.
