After a weak start of the season, coach Gerardo Seoane was already counted at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Now the club has drawn consequences.
Borussia Mönchengladbach separated from his head coach Gerardo Seoane after only three Bundesliga match days, including the youngest 0-4 clap against Werder Bremen. The club officially announced this on Monday. Previously, the “picture”, the “kicker” and Sky, had already reported that Seoanes was over in Gladbach.
Roland Virkus, Managing Director of Sport, said in the club announcement: “After an intensive review of our season start, we were convinced that we have to change the head coach’s position.” The belief in the change among Seoane has disappeared, according to the 58-year-old. President Rainer Bonhof added: “The step to put a new impulse is the right one.” However, he also thanked for the work done by Seoane.
Until further notice, Eugen Polanski takes over the tasks of the dismissed Swiss. The ex-Gladbach professional trained the club’s U23 until the end.
The start of the season was catastrophic for Gladbach. The “foals” could only get a point on the first match day at 0-0 against the HSV. This was followed by two bankruptcies. Borussia could not score a goal this season, but conceded a total of five goals. The club was only worse in 58 years in the Bundesliga in the 2015/16 season (0 points, 2: 8 goals). Gladbach has not won across the season for ten games.
Seoane took over the club in the summer of 2023. Under his leadership, Gladbach had landed in the Bundesliga once on the 14th and once in 10th place.
According to Erik Ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen, his discharge is the second in this Bundesliga season. Gladbach will compete against the “Werkself”, for which Seoane himself once worked for Seoane itself.
