Borussia Mönchengladbach probes the coaching market: Adi Hütter before the end?

Out after one season?

There are increasing signs that the Borussia Mönchengladbach chapter could be over for Adi Hütter after just one year. According to information from “picture” and “Sport Bild” the “foals” are already exploring the trainer market for a possible successor. There are even said to have been talks with a potential candidate or his advisor.

Gladbach had taken Hütter from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer with an exit clause of 7.5 million euros and given him a contract until 2024. However, Borussia fell short of expectations in the current season, in 36 games under Hütter the “Fohlenelf” only scored an average of 1.33 points. According to the report, the relationship between the coach and the team is so broken that even the planned squad change would change little.

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s sports director Virkus avoids commitment to Hütter

Sports director Roland Virkus had not made a clear commitment to Hütter on Thursday before the last game of the season, even after repeated requests. Virkus initially referred to having said everything on the subject. When he was told that he only said that he “wanted” to start the new season with Hütter and not he would, he replied: “We want that and we’ll discuss everything else.” Hütter himself explained: “I have a contract, I have nothing else, I don’t want to say more about it.”

For the last few weeks of this difficult season, however, the sports director drew a conciliatory conclusion. “The situation was more precarious than everyone thought,” Virkus said. “When you look at the whole situation, you have to say very clearly that, with the exception of the derby, the squad worked very, very well. There were other clubs that were relegated in such a mixed situation.” Borussia, who actually wanted to play for Europe, are tenth in the table before the last game of the season against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Saturday (3:30 p.m.).

Hütter assessed his first season quite self-critically. “Overall, we missed our target. But a lot happened along the way,” said the 52-year-old. “There were more downs than ups. There have been too many big losses, a very unpleasant series of losses and two derby losses that hurt a lot. But also one or the other highlight.”
