Official: BVB fires coach Nuri Şahin

BVB started the season with coach Nuri Şahin with great expectations. However, after only 27 games, their time together is over again.
BVB has parted ways with coach Nuri Şahin after just six months. The club announced this on its website. “Sport Bild”, Sky, “Kicker” and SID first reported on Wednesday morning, one day after the lost duel in the Champions League against FC Bologna (1:2).
Sports director Lars Ricken on the decision: “We really appreciate Nuri Şahin and his work, wanted a long collaboration and hoped until the end that we would achieve a sporting turnaround together. After four defeats in a row, due to only one Winning the last nine games and being currently tenth in the Bundesliga, we have unfortunately lost faith in being able to achieve our sporting goals in the current constellation. This decision also hurts me personally, but it was in after the game Bologna can no longer be avoided.”
Nuri Şahin said about his departure: “Unfortunately, we have not managed to do justice to Borussia Dortmund’s sporting ambitions this season at this point in time. I wish this special club all the best.”
According to “Bild”, the bosses made the decision that night after the defeat in the premier class. Sports director Sebastian Kehl is said to have informed the team of the decision. Afterwards, the coach is said to have said goodbye to the team. Sky also writes that the team and coach were informed that night in the hotel in Bologna.
BVB continues in the Bundesliga on Saturday against Werder. It is not yet clear who will be in the coaching bench. Dortmund wants to inform about this “in a timely manner”.
Sports managing director Lars Ricken said on Prime Video on Tuesday evening: “We all just want the best for Borussia Dortmund, and then we will discuss what is best for Borussia Dortmund and what the solutions are that we can come up with again get on the road to success.” The solution was probably the dismissal of Nuri Şahin.
In the Bundesliga, Dortmund was only able to win one of the last seven games; the last three games against Leverkusen (2:3), Kiel (2:4) and Frankfurt (0:2) were all lost. In the table, the ambitious Borussia is currently in tenth place, far away from the targeted Champions League places.
