Born and raised in Emmen, he is proud and dares to say so out loud

And even if it is not in the national character, a Drent can also be proud. As I wrote earlier: it was me in the car early this morning. Because the space, the greenery, the clean air; Emmen scores well on it and that is something to be proud of. On the street in the city I also noticed it from the people we asked about it during the recording of a report.

“I feel at ease here,” smiles a 90-year-old resident. He has lived in Emmen for thirty years and does so to his complete satisfaction. “I also bet that this will make Emmen residents a little more proud and realize what great points the city has”, another resident adds.

Also this morning it went wild on WhatsApp. Not with those of my friends, but with those of the aldermen of the municipality of Emmen. “Yes, this news was shared for a while”, alderman Raymond Wanders beams. He praises his city for its peace, space and the aftermath.

I have to confess something: I no longer live in Emmen, but in Zwolle. Left because of study, stayed because of love. But Emmen also remains a love, to which I still like to return. And Groningen may be number one in the survey, but as far as I’m concerned – and with me many people from Emmen – there really is something above Groningen.
