Boris Becker pays homage to Novak Djokovic for “masterpiece”

Novak Djokovic is back on the tennis throne. The Serb has returned to the top of the world rankings thanks to his triumph at the US Open. Boris Becker praises his former protégé for his recent achievement.

Djokovic’s performance in the final against Daniil Medvedev was a “masterpiece”, Becker told the Italian newspaper “La Gazzetta dello Sport”.

The final at the US Open was over after just three sets. Djokovic gave Medvedev no chance at 6:3, 7:6 (7:5), 6:3.

As a well-deserved reward, the 36-year-old was able to celebrate his 24th Grand Slam title. The “Djoker” thus further extended his record.

“It is difficult to find words to describe the achievement of a player who won 24 titles between 2007 and 2023,” Becker commented on Djokovic’s achievements. The TV expert coached the right-hander between 2013 and 2016.

Back then, Djokovic was already one of the world’s top tennis players. With his victory at the US Open, the Serb has again taken the lead in the ATP rankings from Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.

Novak Djokovic is not yet thinking about retiring from tennis

Djokovic is still not thinking about resigning. “Occasionally I ask myself: Why do I need all this after everything I’ve achieved? How long do I want to keep going? Of course I have these questions in my head,” Djokovic revealed after the final in New York.

At the same time, the superstar emphasized: “But as long as I’m still playing at this high level and winning the biggest tournaments in this sport, I don’t want to get rid of or leave this sport if I’m still at the top.”

In plain language: Djokovic is far from tired and wants to continue working on his legendary status – the tennis competitor has been warned.
