Iltalehti interviewed Bojan Sarcevic of Korihaiden and asked him for 11 questions about Finland.

1. “Bojan”, which country are you citizen?
– I got Finnish citizenship 3-4 years ago. I no longer remember exactly. I’m also a citizen of Bosnia.
2. Do you often visit Bosnia?
-My 74-year-old mother and big sister still live in Bosnia, so we go there now about once a year. My father died a few years ago. When we go, we always try to be a little longer. We try to introduce our child to their cousins.
3. How do you treat Finnish alcohol culture as Orthodox?
– Unfortunately, in Bosnia, minors get to the bar, so drinking young people was already familiar. I think alcohol is ok if people just don’t cause problems for others or themselves. I’m not so believed that I would resent.
4. What do you think about Finnish food?
– It’s a difficult question since I’ve been in Finland for 20 years. I’m used to Finnish food. For example, reindeer herding is top. We eat a lot of meat and fish. Also potatoes and sausages. I have also learned porridge eating.
5. What was it used to get used to the Finnish climate?
-It was a big shock when I came here at the age of 18. I knew much about Finland than the capital Helsinki.
6. Was Finnish difficult to learn?
– The problem was when I didn’t know how long I would stay in Finland. However, I began to take language lessons when people were constantly asking about my Finnish language. Nowadays, I refuse to speak English with people anymore in English.
7. When you have a foreign background, have you encountered racism in Finland?
– I have not met, but I have been helped by many wonderful people in Finland since the beginning. I haven’t even had the feeling that I am a foreigner here. Of course, my basketball background has helped.
8. What is the best thing in Finland and especially in Uusikaupunki?

– Uusikaupunki is a wonderful summer city. There is a lot to do here in the summer. We, too, go on vacation rather than in the summer because we do not want to lose the New Town summer.
9. Who do you admire other athletes outside the basketball?
– In the past, I followed a lot of football, but now comes the first thing to remember Novak Djokovic. He is the number one ever. Lately I’ve been following a lot of From Armand Duplant. My wife keeps a lot of long jumper Ivana from Spanovicso we follow her carefully.
10. Have you thought about a coaching career?
– Yes. I haven’t attended coaching courses yet, but I’ve already helped our juniors. Before the birth of our child, I had more time for it.
11. When your gaming career ends, are you going to stay in Finland with your family?
– Our plan is to stay here. My wife, who is also a Bosnian background, also has Finnish citizenship. Our daughter is now 2 years old and in a way completely Finnish. We have our own apartment in Uusikaupunki.
“Worst level”

– I’ve been playing in the basketball league for 20 seasons and now is the worst level for a long time. This is, of course, due to money. The club has a new arcade, but on the other hand, one of the main sponsors, the Uusikaupunki car factory, announced the massive layoffs just during the season.
– The layoffs of the car factory have not yet been affected, but I also have a lot of friends there and my spouse who have not yet been officially reported. The situation is difficult, but we cannot influence it. You have to be positive and trust that the car factory will find a solution to its problems.
– This is life, even sad. Such situations come and go, the automotive industry is like that.
However, the new arcade, 1200 seating, gives a positive look to the basket. For the first time, the club will start in its new hall for the season, where only a few matches were played at the end of last season.
– Of course, new halls have a positive effect. Quite a top hall compared to the fact that it is basically made primarily for the need for schoolchildren. Now we just have to succeed in our games to get more viewers. Hope we have a long spring.
– There have been a lot of difficulties and injuries during the training season. We have hardly been able to run five against five training. Although we have 12 players, every training week has been on the sidelines.
– However, this is part of the sport and must focus on what we can influence. We’re trying to get a team spirit to the pin. Our team has changed a bit, but the frame has remained the same. Our goal is to be among the four. The series is a marathon, not a sprint.
