Boeblik surprises Zverev and takes first title in Montpellier

Kazakh tennis player Aleksandr Boeblik has won his first title at the indoor tournament in Montpellier. The number 35 in the world was in the final 6-4 6-3 too strong for the German Alexander Zverev, who was the world number 3 placed first in France.

The 24-year-old Boeblik was in a final for the fifth time, but lost it each time. In the first round of the Montpellier tournament, Boeblik had beaten Tallon groenpoor in two tiebreaks. Zverev, the best in Montpellier in 2017, could have captured his twentieth title.

Boeblik now travels to Rotterdam, where he will face Andy Murray in the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament next week.

At the ATP tournament in Pune, India, the title went to the Portuguese João Sousa, who took his fourth title and his first since 2018. In the final, Sousa defeated the Finn Emil Ruusuvuori 7-6 (9) 4-6 6- 1.
