The body of the missing eight-year-old boy from Steenwijk has been found. Emergency services found the body in water at the Steenwijkerdiep.

The police do not suspect a crime. The boy appears to have accidentally fallen into the water himself, reports said RTV East.

The boy has been missing since last night. After the disappearance, emergency services received a report of a person in the water in the Steenwijkerdiep around half past nine in the evening. Traces were also found on the ice there. The body was found there this afternoon.

Hundreds of people searched for the boy last night and overnight. The search continued early this morning, including with divers from the National Underwater Search Team. They eventually brought the boy’s body to the surface.
