The seven-year-old girl was soon found on the buoy. About forty minutes later, the mother’s body was found. Emergency services tried to resuscitate her, but to no avail. It is not yet known what caused the family to end up in the water. It is believed that the family had rented one canoe and that the vessel subsequently capsized for unknown reasons. The members of the family were not wearing life jackets, a Coast Guard spokesman said.
