Bobbi is the youngest and already the very best: ‘I want to beat everyone’

Bobbi Eveleens is a big name in the dance world. De Osse recently won a major international tournament in Sweden, leaving dozens of competitors behind her. Striking detail: Bobbi was the youngest participant at 15 years old. “I never feel intimidated, I actually get energy from being in front of good dancers.”

At 15 years old, De Osse is a well-known appearance among adult dancers who are a lot older. She is a great promise in the world of hip-hop dance, but also of locking. This is a dance form with very fast and exaggerated movements in which the dancer occasionally ‘freezes’ for a short time. This gives you a kind of ‘robot idea’.

“I like the whole style of hip-hop, really old school. Locking can be seen more as a show style, where you have to take the audience with you during a battle. For example, you can adjust your clothing to stand out even more.”

“Spectators went crazy for our opponent.”

Bobbi already has plenty of experience abroad. Earlier this year she won a major tournament in Italy. The Brabant woman often dances alone, but in Sweden Rowley Silver was her dance partner. “Participating in a foreign competition is cool, even if the audience is not in your favor. When we faced Swedish world top players in a battle, the spectators went completely crazy for the opponent. After our win, the only cheering came from the group of Dutch people in the hall.”

Hip-hop and locking are her favorite styles, but Bobbi trains in a very all-round manner. “During battles it is freestyle. You don’t know what song they’re going to play and you have a minute to rock. I want to master the basics of all styles. I can take elements from this with me during competitions.”

“I’m not afraid to show new techniques and tricks. Sometimes I also spontaneously show something I’ve never done before. My specialty? Going to the ground and turning on my knees is a ‘Bobbi move’.”

“My goal is to beat the very best dancers.”

The basis for all medals lies in the ballet studio, where she first danced as a two-year-old girl. About five years later she exchanged the tutu and ballet shoes for hip-hop dance. A bull’s eye, because she turned out to be very good. Together with Senna Wijnbergen, she even became world champion at the age of 10.

Bobbi continued to rack up titles and medals in the following years. And she wants to continue doing that for years to come. “I choose the best tournaments at home and abroad. It is always my goal to beat the very best dancers in the world.”

Wherever in the world she dances, her mother Angela accompanies her. Father Mike, a former professional football player at Ajax and TOP Oss, is also often there. In about two years they will see Bobbi less often, because after high school she wants to go to America for a year. “Hip-hop originated in a neighborhood of New York. I want to go there to take dance lessons. I also go to Los Angeles for commercial jobs. That year I want to fully focus on my passion.”
