Bo Svensson leaves the goalkeeper question open

Coach Bo Svensson has left the goalkeeping question at FSV Mainz 05 open for the time being after the strong performance of keeper Finn Dahmen.

“To be honest, I haven’t given it much thought,” said Svensson after the 3-2 win at Bayer Leverkusen when asked who would be in goal for Mainz on Friday against Borussia Mönchengladbach: “Ask me again in a few days . It’s a difficult decision but we’re not complaining that we have two such good goalkeepers. I have to disappoint one, but better this way than when we lack quality.”

Before kick-off, Svensson had actually made it clear that Robin Zentner would remain number one.

The regular substitute keeper Finn Dahmen only played when Zentner returned to the squad because he was not completely fit after his back injury.

But Dahmen, who has already announced his departure at the end of the season, not only saved a penalty from Edmond Tapsoba when the score was 0-0, he also showed a good game.

“That makes it more difficult, that’s clear,” said Svensson: “But that’s a luxury situation.”
