New look and higher performance for the BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition. These are the main contents of the update received by the more performing versions of the propeller’s mid-range SUVs, announced a few days after the respective standard versions. In addition to the traditional aesthetic touches, for both the most important novelty introduced with the restyling is represented by the electrification of the 4.4-litre TwinTurbo V8 engine, which gains something in power and a lot in efficiency. At the moment the Bavarian house has not specified the date of entry on the market of the two models, much less the variation of the price lists compared to the outgoing ones, respectively proposed at 150,500 euros and 157,150 euros.

external and internal

The bodywork of both SUVs received the same treatment as the less performing versions. The update of the front passes through the new kidney grille, now capable of polarizing attention in any shape or size proposed. It divides the front light clusters with a thinner cut and is almost integrated by the new bumper, which contributes decisively to the three-dimensional layout of the nose. This is one of the specific elements of the X5 M and X6 M Competition, such as the air vents behind the front wheels, the spoilers on the roof and the diffuser which incorporates the four tailpipes. The passenger compartment of the X5 and X6 also inherits the BMW Curved Display, which combines two 12.3 and 14.9-inch screens in a single glass area, dedicated to the instrument panel and infotainment system. Among its numerous functions there are specific graphics and indicators for the M, while the audio is entrusted to the Harman Kardon Surround Sound system. The interiors are enhanced by wood finishes and Merino leather seat upholstery.

v8 mild hybrid

One of the most important innovations that arrived with the restyling can be found under the hood of the X5 and X6 M Competition. The well-known 4.4-liter V8 TwinTurbo continues to deliver 625 hp and 750 Nm of torque but, according to the house, the accelerator response is quicker and emissions have dropped significantly. The V8 has benefited from interventions aimed at optimizing the intake phase and the turbines, while the adoption of the M Sport exhaust terminal with active valves aims to offer the right sound at any speed. But the greatest contribution comes from the 48 Volt mild-hybrid system which provides for an electric motor with 12 HP and 200 Nm of torque, integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission with Drivelogic. The latest evolution offers three settings that optimize responses for use in mail as well. The performances of the BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition are identical: acceleration 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and top speed limited to 250 km/h, or 290 km/h with the optional M Race Track package.

trim and adas

Both share the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, supported by the active rear axle differential. In 4WD Sport mode it allows controlled drifts by distributing the bulk of the power to the rear. The BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition are fitted as standard with 21-inch light alloy wheels at the front and 22-inch at the rear, with 295/35 and 315/30 tyres. Among the new features of the Adas package is the active navigation system with Speed Limit Assist and Exit Warning. With the My Bmw App it will be possible to take advantage of the Parking Assistant Professional technology which allows you to control the vehicle from your smartphone.
