BMW clarifies: ‘No interest in getting into F1’ | formula 1

BMW is not interested in entering Formula 1 from 2026. CEO Andreas Roos informed the motorsport total of this. Due to the rule changes in 2026, brands such as Audi and Porsche want to enter Formula 1, but Kroon clearly indicates that this is not the case at BMW. The German car brand prefers to continue to concentrate on other races.

The rules for engines will change from 2026. Formula 1 is focusing on power sources with a greater input of electricity and more sustainable fuels. They also have to become cheaper and that has convinced other car manufacturers. Audi has already announced its entry into Formula 1 as an engine supplier in 2026 and Porsche also has serious plans. Honda, which ended its active role in Formula 1 at Red Bull at the end of last year, is said to be considering a return in 2026.

Roos indicates that BMW’s priorities in motorsport lie elsewhere: “We are realistic. You have to invest a lot in Formula 1 and before you have paid back you have to be very successful over a very long period of time. We are concentrating on endurance racing (WEC), which is more important to us than Formula 1.” BMW was last active in the premier class between 2000 and 2009, first as an engine supplier to Williams and later to Sauber.
