A flash meets a youth team during training. A player hovers in mortal danger – the club from the Czech Republic is deeply affected.
At the Czech club Slezský FC Opava, the shock is deep: During a training session, a group of young people was hit by a flash. Nine players then had to go to the hospital. There had been no signs of the approaching storm before, the club said.
“The weather conditions did not indicate upcoming thunderstorms,” Jan Hruška, chairman of the association, wrote on Facebook. He emphasized that the coaches immediately provided first aid and expressly thanked the emergency services. Hruška also expressed hope of a “positive development of the situation”.
The accident occurred late Friday afternoon in the city of Opava in the east of Czech. According to media reports, a youthful was seriously injured. According to the emergency services, he suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest and burns on several parts of the body. Paramedics immediately provided first aid before a helicopter brought the boy to a hospital in Ostrava. His condition was “very serious, but stable,” said a spokeswoman for the emergency services.
