Traded at Royal Antwerp
Now it’s official: Daley Blind’s contract with Ajax Amsterdam will be terminated prematurely. As the Dutch record champions announced on Tuesday, the working paper of the 32-year-old left-back now ends at the end of the year instead of at the end of the season. For almost two weeks there has been speculation in the media about an early departure. With a market value of 6 million euros, the World Cup driver will be the third most valuable player without a contract on the market.
“In the last few days we have reached an agreement with Daley to terminate his contract. I hope that he will find another club to end his successful career. Together with Daley, we have decided on a game in the ArenA where he can say goodbye to the fans appropriately,” explained managing director Edwin van der Sar about Blind, who left Ajax after a loan to FC Groningen (second half of 2009/10) and a transfer to Manchester United (2014-2018) is now leaving for the third time.
With Blind and Wijndal: Ajax Amsterdam’s most expensive purchases
Blind, who is said to have asked for a contract termination before the World Cup, came to Ajax at the age of eight, made his debut in the Eredivisie at the age of 18 and played a total of 333 games. Blind, who is in eleventh place in the club’s record player ranking, has won the Dutch championship seven times and two cups with the Amsterdam team.
After leaving Ajax Amsterdam: Blind before moving to Royal Antwerp?
One reason for his wish to leave could have been his recent decreasing season at Ajax. With one exception, he was always on the pitch for 90 minutes in the first nine games in the Eredivisie, but from mid-October he was only allowed to play a maximum of 45 minutes. It is not yet known where Blind will go. Recently, however, coach Mark van Bommel from the Belgian club Royal Antwerpen confirmed his interest in signing the 99-time Dutch international.
