Donyell Malen scores for Aston Villa against Young Boys Bern. But then unpleasant scenes develop. The referee intervenes.

The 27th minute at Villa Park in the Europa League duel against Bern: Youri Tielemans hits a cross from the right into the Bern penalty area. Malen prevailed in the header duel with Young Boys defender Tanguy Zoukrou and scored goalkeeper Marvin Keller unstoppable to give the hosts the lead.

But then there are unpleasant scenes: Malen runs in front of the guest block to cheer – and is pelted with objects from the Bern curve. His Villa teammates raise their hands to protect themselves and want to calm him down – but then Malen is hit in the head by an object and immediately runs for cover. On the TV pictures you can see how Malen even suffered a bleeding wound on his head.

Since referee Georgi Kabakov checked the goal using VAR anyway, the match was not interrupted by the referee. And Malen was able to continue playing.

Just a few minutes later, however, the situation escalated again: Malen increased Villa’s lead to 2-0 in the 42nd minute, and objects were again thrown from the visitors’ corner. This time Kabakov interrupted the game briefly and YB captain Loris Bonito had to calm his own fans.
