Blauw Wit ’34 wins indoor football tournament in Meppel. Angry supporters during semi-final against Staphorst

Blauw Wit ’34 won the 34th Vriend/Stadtmüller Futsal tournament in Meppel on Friday. The club from Leeuwarden defeated SC Emmeloord 3-1 in the final and took the challenge cup and a cash prize of 1,500 euros. Staphorst took third place by winning the shootouts 2-1 against SC Franeker.

,,Nice huh. Tonight you can see again that indoor football is alive and well during the winter break among the field football players,” said a satisfied organizer Guido Broers afterwards. “Tonight we had indoor football of a high level and a full house of spectators. That’s great.”

For a moment, the fire seemed to go up in the Koedijkslanden sports hall in Meppel. Sport is emotion, but the latter briefly took over at the end of the semi-final between Staphorst and Blauw Wit ’34. Some supporters of the Leeuwarders did not accept a referee’s decision and the turnips seemed done.

Quick action by Broers and his team, the players and coach of Blauw Wit ’34 nipped a major attack in the bud. “You know that the tension will increase towards the final. This was not due to the players or the game, but merely to a few supporters,” said Broers. “Luckily it was over quickly. I immediately received an apology from the Blauw Wit coach after the match. It’s a shame about the fuss, because the football was high-quality in that match.”

Favorite

Favorite for final victory, third divisionist Staphorst, lost the match in question against Blauw Wit ’34 by losing the penalty shootout after a draw (4-4): 1-2. In the other cross-final, SC Emmeloord won convincingly 3-0 against Franeker.

Pool A In pool A, Alcides on Sunday (only 1 point), Vitesse ’63 (3 points) and Alcides on Saturday (6 points) did not bring enough for a place in the semi-finals. Franeker (7 points) and Blauw Wit’34 (12 points), consisting of purely ‘pure’ indoor football players, were the numbers two and one and advanced to the semi-finals.

Pool B

In group B, Staphorst was number one with 10 points on goal difference. Indoor football team SC Emmeloord (represented with a surplus of indoor football players) was also number two with 10 points, but one goal scored less. MSC fifth in the group without a single point, FVC Leeuwarden (3 points) and Old Stars with 3 points fell short for the semi-finals.

Cross-finals and finals

The first cross-finals therefore produced the necessary ‘fireworks’ inside and outside the field between Staphorst and Blauw Wit ’34. Ultimately, the Frisians won the penalty series 2-1. In the second cross-final, the indoor football players of SC Emmeloord were clearly too strong for Franeker: 3-0. The playing picture was also clear in the final. Blauw Wit ’34 decided and SC Emmeloord gambled on the counter-punch: 3-1. Ultimately, Blauw Wit ’34 turned out to be the strongest and rightful winner.
