Blackpink have released their new mini-album “Deadline” – their first official release in over three years. The album features five tracks, including the single “Jump”, and is the third mini-album of Blackpink’s career.
Along with the album, Blackpink released a music video for the anthemic, EDM-infused album cut “Go.”
Blackpink announced “Deadline” – which shares the same name as their recent world tour – in January. The mini-album is the third of its kind after “Square Up” (2018) and “Kill This Love” (2019). Her last studio album to date, “Born Pink”, was released in 2022.
The single “Jump” came first
Even before the mini-album, Blackpink shared their official comeback single “Jump” in July. For the track, the quartet of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa brought a whole armada of songwriters on board: TEDDY, Diplo, 24, Zikai, Claudia Valentina, Jumpa, Malachiii and Jesse Bluu. The track was produced by Diplo, 24, Boaz Van De Beatz, Zecca and Ape Drums.
Since the release of “Born Pink,” the members of Blackpink have primarily focused on their solo careers. Rosé released the solo album “Rosie,” which included “Apt.” included – her hit collaboration with Bruno Mars. Lisa released her own solo album, Alter Ego, last year and also appeared in the most recent season of The White Lotus, which was filmed in Thailand. Jennie released her solo debut “Ruby” last year and Jisoo released her EP “Amortage”.
After their solo break, Blackpink returned last year with the Deadline World Tour. It started at Goyang Stadium in Seoul and ended in Hong Kong in January. In August, Blackpink became the first K-pop girl group ever to headline Wembley Stadium. At the show, they paid homage to a girl group sensation who came before them and performed the Spice Girls’ 1996 debut single, “Wannabe.”
YG Entertainment about the album
YG Entertainment, the group’s label, said in a statement surrounding the release of “Deadline”: “Even amidst the intense schedule of a large-scale world tour, the members have invested significant time and effort in perfecting this album. We believe it is a work that embodies both the four members’ individual musical abilities and their synergy as a team. We ask for your continued support as Blackpink once again makes a significant mark on the global music industry.”
