“Blacklight Shine”: The Mars Volta release first song in 10 years and short film

The Mars Volta celebrate their long-awaited return with a new single called “Blacklight Shine”. They also tour the United States. You can find the data at the end of the article.

New single and black and white video

In a statement, lead singer Cedric Bixler-Zavala said the song’s lyrics are about “a wave of rolling blackouts that washes memories ashore.” Instead of a usual music video, you can expect a clip in short film format. The black and white video, directed by guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López, is eleven minutes long. In addition to rhythmic dances, we see and hear traditional hand drums and songs.

The Mars Volta have also announced a tour of North America. They will perform live for the first time since 2012. The tour begins September 23 in Dallas and concludes in Los Angeles on October 21, 2022. More information is on the site from The Mars Volta.

The Texas band released six studio albums between 2003 and 2012 before splitting up due to a dispute between founding members Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López. Less than a year after the breakup, however, the musicians got along again and compared their brief quarrel to an argument between brothers. That same year, the two reunited for a few performances by their band At The Drive-In, which preceded The Mars Volta. Shortly thereafter, they also formed a new band called Antemasque. The Mars Volta’s last album to date was 2012’s NOCTOURNIQUET.
