The hunt for a beautiful piece of clothing has now begun in the thrift store. Odeth Rijker opts for a red coat. “I already have a lot of coats, it’s a kind of addiction, just like women often collect bags,” she laughs.

Giving away clothing is also sustainable, but slightly different. That is what action group Extinction Rebellion did this afternoon in Assen on the Koopmansplein. “We are here on behalf of Extinction Rebellion to make you aware of the enormous waste of clothing on earth,” an activist shouts into a megaphone.

Racks of clothing are set up in front of her, where interested people browse through them. Spokesperson Eva, who does not want to be mentioned by name, explains the idea behind the action today. “Black Friday was created to buy even more. There is already enough clothing in the world, far too much in fact, so you don’t have to buy more, but less. That’s why we hand out free clothing.”
