Bizarre images: Veenhuizen – Vitesse ’63 dressed up by a man with a scooter on the field

The match in the third division D was interrupted in a very special way on Saturday afternoon. After about ten minutes, a gentleman suddenly came onto the field on a scooter. He was angry because his horse had been frightened by fireworks that had been set off before the competition started.

Veenhuizen and Vitesse’63, both battling against relegation, had only just started the game when neighbor Verhagen suddenly drove onto the field with a scooter. He stopped at the home club’s dugout to express his dissatisfaction to trainer Marcel van Veenen and team manager Erik Schmidt. Then he rode across the field back to the entrance. He stopped again at the center circle to make it clear to Veenhuizen player Robert Elzinga that he was fed up.

Prior to the game, fireworks were fired by young supporters of Veenhuizen. That had unintended side effects. It was not only an incentive for the players, but the neighbour’s horse was also stimulated to extra activity. However, not as desired. The horse and also a shetlander of a visitor, who were standing in the garden, became very restless. The neighbor became enraged and delivered his message in an unorthodox manner. Then he drove off the field.

Chairman Kees van der Leest van Veenhuizen thinks it is an annoying event: ,,We are not doing very well in the rankings and we had to play against the number last, Vitesse’63. The youth wanted to support the team, unfortunately that turned out to be unfortunate. The neighbor drove under the chain, where the lawnmower enters the field. An annoying thing of course, because we don’t want to be a burden to anyone and we also have to monitor safety on the field. Yes, we know the neighbour, in his youth he also played football with us. We are responsible as a board and regret what happened, but the youth also meant well.

Did it affect the concentration of the home team? Veenhuizen was 3-0 down in no time (after 23 minutes) after the departure of the scooter, while it was still 0-0 before the memorable event. Van der Leest: ,,That is a bit far-fetched, but it may have influenced the concentration. Vitesse’63 certainly had a better understanding of what it was all about this afternoon.” The guests from Koekange won 1-4.

Van der Leest will consult with his fellow board members on Monday evening: ,,We will talk to the neighbour. He also acted out of emotion, I think. We want a good relationship, we are neighbors after all.”
