In Geesteren (municipality of Tubbergen, province of Overijssel) bird flu was diagnosed at a small-scale farm. It is probably a highly pathogenic variant. In order to prevent the virus from spreading, the total of approximately 120 ornamental water birds and chickens are culled by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
