In September, Billie Eilish started her “Hit Me Hard And Soft” tour in support of the album of the same name and is currently touring North America. On Friday, December 13, she performed at the Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona – and a shocking moment ensued when a fan threw a blue beaded necklace onto the stage and hit her in the face.
Eilish dropped on stage
Videos taken by fans show the 22-year-old singer sitting cross-legged on the floor, spotlights bathing the arena in a soft pink light. Eilish starts her “Barbie” ballad “What Was I Made For?” and sings the first notes when she suddenly has a pearl necklace thrown in her face. Eilish flinches and falls silent, the crowd whispers. She grimaces in annoyance before continuing to sing like the professional she is. Slightly frustrated, she then picks up the projectile and throws it to the side in a decidedly annoyed manner.
As irritable as the videos documenting Friday’s incident, the singer is not even known. The chain attack isn’t the first time that Eilish has had something thrown at her on stage by the audience.
“We understand it, but don’t do it”
The “Chihiro” singer and her brother Finneas spoke to “The Hollywood Reporter” at the premiere of “Barbie” in 2023 about the topic of “dropping pop stars”. “I have mixed feelings about it because when you’re up there it sucks. But you know it’s out of love and they’re just trying to give you something,” Eilish continued. “You’re in a vulnerable position, but I’ve been bombarded with things for years.”
Her big brother Finneas admitted that most fans often don’t even try to meet the artist or do anything to her. For example, fans are more likely to throw their phones onto the stage out of sheer joy in the hope that Billie Eilish would take a photo with them. Eilish commented: “It’s absolutely irritating when you’re up there. “
Finneas then addressed the camera with a direct message: “Don’t do it – we understand, but don’t do it,” while Billie added: “Don’t throw things on stage!” We still love you!”
From sausages to ashes
But it’s not just Billie Eilish fans who throw objects onto the stage out of sheer euphoria. Among other things, Lady Gaga was pelted with sausages during a performance in Barcelona in 2012. Another example: singer Cher Lloyd, who was dropped with a plastic bottle filled with urine during a 2012 festival performance in Essex. But the winner is Alice Cooper, who had a whole chicken thrown onto the stage in Toronto in 1969 – but also P!NK, whose ashes of a fan’s deceased mother landed on the stage at their concert in London in 2023.
