“Film Song of the Year” for Billie Eilish and Finneas

Billie Eilish was invited to the Variety Hitmaker of the Year event with her brother Finneas. Together they received an award at the awards ceremony for their song “What Was I Made For”. The track won the award as “Best film song of the year” for his work in Great Gerwig’s comedy “Barbie”. They were presented with the award by Bernie Taupin, Elton John’s songwriter, who said in his eulogy: “Many great people can write many great songs with a lot of outside help. But not many find their one true songwriting partner who can cut through the noise and hit straight to the heart with a simple idea, a melody and a lyric that can uplift the world and touch us – in a way that only one can really great song and songwriter can. Just as I have been blessed with my songwriting partner of the last 56 years and others I can think of: these two, Billie and Finneas, have each other and the gift of songwriting, although songwriting teams are a dying breed. And luckily these two revived her. There is no tinkering from outside, from a single soul other than them, what they have done, equipped with an idea, a pen and paper and a piano. What they have already achieved in their young lives is simply amazing.”
