“Bild” confirms: Coach Reis asked VfL Bochum for release for Schalke

Contract was supposedly negotiated

There are deep rifts between VfL Bochum and its head coach Thomas Reis, the “Sport Bild” recently reported and provided some background information. Although supervisory board boss Hans-Peter Villis rejected a possible separation on Thursday, not everything seems to be good at the Revierklub in the relationship between the coach and his employer. the “Picture” followed up with a new report on Friday, sticking to his version.

The newspaper reports that Reis wanted to take over at FC Schalke 04 this summer as the successor to interim solution Mike Büskens and therefore asked for his approval for a change. The trainer emphatically rejected the previously published first reports on Thursday at the matchday conference and said: “I know I will never find out who the informants are. I would be interested in that. I take it brutally personally! I think that I can definitely look in the mirror, that’s the most important thing to me.

At the VfL headquarters, several employees have long known about Reis and his transfer request, and other media such as “Sport1” have also confirmed the information. Reis flashed his project in mid-May at the office at Villis and still sports director Sebastian Schindzielorz, it is said. According to reports, there was already a negotiated contract with Schalke, which ultimately tackled the relegation mission with Frank Kramer on the sidelines.

According to “Sport Bild”, the big break between Bochum’s coach and the club’s management came before the 0:7 swatter against FC Bayern. In an interview with the “Funke Mediengruppe”, Reis had emphasized that there were “no talks” about extending the contract in Bochum and that he was “looking for work from July 1, 2023” – to the complete incomprehension of the VfL bosses. Reis later gave in publicly, admitting misrepresentation. Reis allegedly wanted to receive more than one million euros in basic salary per year, but Bochum only offered him a sum below this mark, which would have been achieved through bonuses if successful. Reis would have risen to become the top earner in the club.
