The German U17 footballers beat the USA at the World Cup in Indonesia and reached the quarter-finals. The match winner was Bilal Yalcinkaya.
Without the injured Assan Ouedraogo, the German youth team struggled to make it to the next round with a 3-2 win in the round of 16 over the Americans in Bandung. Spain is waiting there on Friday (November 24th, 2023).

“In tournaments you sometimes have a game where you leave the court as a happy winner. This was today”said coach Christian Wück and added: “We were actually just defending. The three goals came from our individual quality and that’s what we can rely on.”
The match winner was Bilal Yalcinkaya (87th), who scored the decisive goal shortly before the end. The German team got off to a powerful start: First Paris Brunner failed twice against keeper Adam Beaudry, before Charles Herrmann (14th) beautifully flicked a free kick from almost 20 meters into the right corner.
USA deserves the equalizer
But the lead didn’t last long, the USA got stronger and got the deserved equalizer through Taha Habroune (24th). But this time Germany countered quickly. A flat cross from Herrmann pushed center forward Max Moerstedt (34′) over the line to make it 2-1.
In the second half, the USA dominated the action and equalized again through substitute David Vazquez (80th), who also scored from a free kick. But Germany again showed strong morale and took the lead for the third time through Yalcinkaya.
