Roest’s past season was marked by injuries and the stayer still doesn’t seem to have fully recovered from them. This became apparent at a training competition in Thialf, where the skater from Team Reggeborgh had a hard time and recorded a time of 6.29.65. That is almost eight seconds above the placement limit for the National Championships of 6.21.71.

It was Roest’s first 5 kilometers since December 28 in Heerenveen. After that he no longer took action at his favorite distance. This was particularly noticeable in the final laps. Roest finished with a lap of 34.8.

Time is running out

Time is running out for the 29-year-old skater from Lekkerkerk in the Olympic season. Because the National Championships are already on the menu this month. They will take place from October 31 and November 2 in Thialf.

Next week, Roest – if he decides to participate – will get another chance during the Holland Cup. At least four tickets are still being distributed there.
