Energie Cottbus has achieved a decisive victory for the direct competitor Hansa Rostock. Before the last match day, Cottbus is on the relegation place, since Saarbrücken also lost his game in Aachen. Rostock falls back in 5th place.

  • 27,500 spectators saw the 3-1 win of Energie Cottbus in the Rostock Ostseestadion
  • Cottbus now with the best starting position in the fight for the relegation place
  • The turbulent week around the suspension of Maximilian Krauss was not to be noted
  • For Cottbus, Erik Engelhardt (8th minute), Timmy Thiele (19th) and Lucas Copado (49th) met, Alexander Rossipal (55.) scored the Rostock hit (55.)

With 3: 1 (2-0) Energie Cottbus has the explosive duel for promotion to the 2nd league against Hansa Rostock. Saarbrücken – previously in 3rd place – lost 2: 4 in Aachen at the same time, which is why energy can continue to climb on its own.

The course of the game

Energy Cottbus started light awake. In the 8th minute, Dominik Pelivan unpacked a pass from the very fine variety on Jonas Hofmann. The midfielder presented for Erik Engelhardt, so that he could let the ball go into the goal in the goal for the 1-0 lead.

Hansa Rostock played in a controlled manner, but always gave energy opportunities. And the guests’ match plan worked perfectly. After a strong overview by Pelivan and an equally strong individual campaign by Timmy Thiele, the second center forward of the Cottbuser sank by outside to 2: 0 (19th minute). While Cottbus coach Claus-Dieter Wollitz was hard to keep in his coaching zone, Hansa lacked the sparkling ideas.

The crawl bang

48 hours before the hot east duel between Rostock and Cottbus, the air really burns. In the middle of it is a man who will not play on Saturday. And massively criticized the Claus-Dieter Wollitz in a memorable press conference. By Andreas Friebelmore

With the comfortable guidance in the back, energy was able to start in half number two. Shortly after the restart, Lucas Copado took out a misunderstanding by Hansa goalkeeper Benjamin Uphoff and Felix Ruschke and increased casually to 3: 0 (49.). But then the connection goal: A flat free kick by Alexander Rossipal found his way to the Cottbuser Tor. Elias Bethke complained that the ball was not over the goal line, but the goal counted.

The game was now heated, both teams recorded goal opportunities. Speaking of heated: Hansa captain Franz Pfanne saw the yellow-red card in the 80th minute and made it all the more difficult for his own team to take care of the turn here again. It remained 3-1 for Cottbus. An enormously important victory for the Lausitzer, who can now be found on the relegation place and can secure it against Ingolstadt on the next and last match day.

What was going on there?

Too much wanted? Proved a classic bärendienst? Whatever you want to put it: the yellow-red card of Hansa captain Franz Pfanne suffocated the residual chance of a catch-up from Rostock’s point of view in the bud. The first warning saw pan because he impatiently raised the Lucas Copado lying on the ground. The second yellow then existed for blocking Thiele on the middle circle. Overall, a behavior from the variety: must not happen. Of all people from the captain, of all things in this game.

Player of the day

We cheekily choose two players of the day today. Number one: Once again Timmy Thiele played a leading role in this important victory. Not only in the 3-0 by Lucas Copado he made the decisive meters and previously scored 2-0 himself. Otherwise, the 33-year-old was always present, threw everything in and really heated up the fans again during his replacement.

And then there was Dominik Pelivan, who did not hit himself, but without the – and above all without his good eye – the first two goals would not have come about. Pelivan radiated calm and shone in the key moments.
