Authorities in the Dominican Republic burned a large quantity of drugs on Thursday. Local authorities set fire to approximately 1,450 kilos of cocaine. The drugs were found and seized in three operations along the coast of the Dominican Republic earlier in November. The three search missions were part of ‘Operation Southern Spear’, an initiative by the United States to combat drug trafficking in Latin America. Operation Southern Spear is a US military campaign to combat drug trafficking networks in the Western Hemisphere, which was officially unveiled on November 13, 2025. The operation uses a hybrid fleet of vessels with robotics and autonomous systems, and aims to combat drug trafficking.
