Biden accuses Russians of lying about Nord Stream

US President Joe Biden denounces Russia’s accusations that the West is behind the leakages of the two Nord Stream gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea as “lies”. “It was a deliberate act of sabotage and the Russians are pumping out misinformation and lies. We will work with our allies to find out exactly what happened,” he told reporters.

Moscow said earlier in the day it had evidence that the West played a role in the damage to Nord Stream 1 and 2 off the coasts of Denmark and Sweden. The Kremlin said Biden should answer the question of whether the United States carried out its threats against the Nord Stream project on September 25 and 26. The US has always been strongly opposed to the construction of those gas pipelines to Germany. In early February, President Joe Biden said Nord Stream would be over if Russia invades Ukraine.

Biden, however, denies any involvement, saying that divers will be sent “at the right time, when things settle down,” to check “what exactly happened.” The European Union has launched an investigation into the cause of the spills and has indicated that it suspects that sabotage is the cause of the damage.
