Biathlon world champion sends warning to the competition

After a weak start to the season, Sebastian Samuelsson was able to celebrate several successes at the last Biathlon World Championships in Oberhof. Now the Swede also wants to attack in the World Cup.

“I feel a lot better than before the World Cup,” Samuelsson told SVT Sport. Just in time for the highlight of the current biathlon season, the 25-year-old was able to regain his old strength.

In pursuit, relay and individual Samuelsson won the bronze medal. In the mass start, the Scandinavian then pulled off the big coup when he scooped gold ahead of his teammate Martin Ponsiluoma and biathlon dominator Johannes Thingnes Bø.

“It’s clear that the confidence is a lot better now than it was before the World Cup. I think I was a bit searching in January and didn’t quite manage to function and so the World Cup proved very useful,” said Samuelsson his rise in form.

“Now I feel like – even if I’m not in the same shape as I was at the World Cup – not much can happen in a week, so I think I have a good chance of finishing the season well, and usually I’m ending the season well and I’m even on the podium in the last third of the season,” said the relay Olympic champion confidently before the final sprint in the Biathlon World Cup.

In the coming days things will get down to business in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. “I want to be up there and fight for a win and a podium,” Samuelsson sent a warning to the biathlon competition.

The Swedish winter sports star is already looking ahead to the coming season. “The last third is always the time when you think about how you want to be competitive next season. If you want to shave a few seconds off your shooting, that can be an opportunity to try a few things,” revealed Samuelsson.
