Biathlon world champion Dorothea Wierer admits mistakes

Dorothea Wierer is about to make her comeback in the Biathlon World Cup. The four-time world champion has repeatedly been set back by illnesses in recent weeks. The Italian ski hunter now also criticized herself.

“It was difficult, but I also made a mistake because I was sick all December,” Wierer explained to the “fondo italia” portal.

A view that Italy’s sports director Klaus Höllrigl shares. “She got sick in Norway before the first World Cup race, and then it caught her at the beginning of the season. Because there are no more canceled results this year, Doro still wanted to start. In hindsight, that was probably not our best decision,” explained this most recently at “SportNews.bz”.

Now Wierer is returning to the Biathlon World Cup – and of all things at the home game in Antholz. The 33-year-old revealed that she was excited to see “how my body reacts.”

Biathlon: Wierer lets himself be surprised

Wierer last competed in Lenzerheide in December. The two-time overall World Cup winner then missed the competitions in Oberhof and Ruhpolding.

“I’m missing a bit of intensity and also the pace of the race. So we’ll see what it’s like on Friday,” said Wierer, looking ahead to the races in Antholz.

The South Tyrolean does not want to overestimate the health setbacks. “There are worse things in life. Even if it seems to be the worst for us athletes, there are much worse things outside of our world,” noted Wierer.

The World Cup in Antholz is also the dress rehearsal for the Biathlon World Cup in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic, which begins on February 7th. Wierer has already won four gold medals at world championships during her successful career. It remains to be seen whether more precious metal will be added this year.
