The chase has started!

Marte Olsbu Røiseland opens the pursuit and sprints out of the gate. With heavy snowfall and minus 13 degrees, the conditions today are completely different from the sprint race. Who can cope best with these complicated conditions?

Swiss women knocked off

Only Lena Häcki and Amy Baserga will be in the pursuit race for Switzerland. Lena Häcki is allowed to start chasing one second after Denise Herrmann and so there could be a trio of Innerhofer, Herrmann and Häcki on the track at the beginning. Amy Baserga, on the other hand, shares the same fate as Vanessa Hinz and both go on the track at the same time after 2:40 minutes. For her, it will be about delivering a good race and gaining more experience in her young professional career.

Lisa Theresa Hauser wants the medal!

The Austrians have a much better starting position, with Lisa Theresa Hauser in fourth place having a hot iron in the fire. She could go even further if she braves the difficult conditions and keeps her nerve on the shooting range. Katharina Innerhofer goes out directly in front of Denise Herrmann and can possibly benefit from her pace. The trio is completed by Julia Schwaiger, who will start the pursuit hopelessly in 45th place, 2:32 minutes behind.

Germany as an outsider

The good news is that all four German athletes qualified for the pursuit race. However, the deficits to the front are quite large, so that a medal is not really to be expected. But here, too, every biathlete must first survive four shooting stages. The youngest of the bunch, Vanessa Voigt, is the first to pursue them. With 18th place, their deficit is already 1:31 minutes. Denise Herrmann is 14 seconds behind her on the trail. Franziska Preuss has to wait almost two minutes before she can leave the starting house and Vanessa Hinz has to endure 55. 2:40 minutes.

The circle of favorites

A total of 60 starters set out on the trail today, with Marte Olsbu Røiseland leading the way. The Norwegian showed an outstanding performance in the sprint race and secured the gold medal. Today, too, she has the best chance of another medal, as she starts the race 31 seconds ahead of Elvira Öberg. 37 seconds after Røiseland, the Italian Dorothea Wierer starts the race. Lisa Theresa Hauser and Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold are also promising. The strong French and also the Belarussians, who have shown strong performances in the run-up, are a little behind.
