The IBU Biathletes Cup is increasingly becoming a show for German ski hunters! After recently achieving a triple victory in the pursuit in Sjusjöen and in the short individual in Lake Placid, Danilo Riethmüller ended up in second place in the sprint in the USA on Saturday. A placement that the 26-year-old impressively gilded in the hunting race on Sunday.
While sprint winner Sverre Dahlen Aspenes squandered any chance of victory with eight shooting errors, Danilo Reithmüller only made one error with 20 shots. A circumstance that was ultimately decisive for the DSV athlete’s clear success.
Reithmüller completed the route in 33:02.1 minutes, clearly ahead of Norwegian Ole Suhrke (5 errors/+1:03.5 minutes) and Aspenes (8 errors/+2:17 minutes).
Franz Schaser, who started the sprint in 17th place, well behind, rounded off the good German performance in fourth place (3 errors/+2:28.5 minutes). However, the Norwegians presented themselves even stronger as a team. In addition to Suhrke and Aspeness, Jörgen Saeter (7th), Sivert Gerhardsen (9th) and Martin Nevland (10th) also landed in the top 10.
German double victory with pure pursuit performance
Simon Kaiser (6 errors/+3:57.8 minutes) had to settle for 13th place due to his large number of penalty loops, while Roman Rees (3 errors/+4:10.8 minutes) landed right behind him in 14th place.
While Elias Seidl, sixth in the sprint, lost a lot of places with six penalties and was only 19th, 4:41.4 minutes behind, Fabian Kaskel (2 errors/+4:48.7 minutes) made up 22 places in 21st place.
Incidentally, if one were to evaluate the pursuer without the deficit from the sprint, Riethmüller would have won ahead of Schaser. Kaskel would have finished in the top 10 in ninth place. Aspenes would have only finished 18th. Riethmüller, Schaser and Kaiser also burned a top 10 running time in the snow of Lake Placid.
