Norway and Switzerland in front

Niklas Hartweg and Sturla Holm Lægreid took the lead after the start. At 1.5 kilometers, it is the shortest lap in the Biathlon World Cup.

It’s starting!

Dinner is served! The athletes are ready and the men start. A total of 24 relay teams are starting the competition and Greenland is taking part for the first time. This is how they make history!

Favorite roles

The Norwegians are once again highly favored to start the season. We still have to wait a little longer for the absolute dominator of last winter, Johannes Thingnes Bø. But the Norwegians are well staffed with Sturla Holm Lægreid and Juni Arnekleiv. But the Swedes are also extremely strong with Sebastian Samuelsson and Hanna Öberg. They may also be joined by the French, who also want to be at the forefront with Fabien Claude and Julia Simon. But anything is possible in the first race of the season and only then will we have an initial performance level of the biathletes.

Whole experience at ÖSV

The ÖSV team starts with starting number four in the single mixed relay. The Austrians rely on their complete experience. With Simon Eder they are sending the 40-year-old veteran into the race. He passes the baton to Lisa Theresa Hauser, who is to date the most successful biathlete in Austria.

12:14

First pursuers of the Norwegians

Niklas Hartweg, who was able to make several exclamation points last season, is planned for the team from Switzerland. His partner this Saturday will be Amy Baserga. They start the race from second position and are therefore the first pursuers of the dominant Norwegian.

12:10

Short-term changes in the German team

It was actually planned for Philipp Nawrath to open for the DSV together with Hanna Kebinger. Due to Benedikt Doll’s minor infection symptoms, who was scheduled for the later mixed relay, Nawrath will take this place. But Justus Strelow gets his chance, who now wants to attack alongside Hanna Kebinger.

What exactly is the Single Mixed Relay?

In the single mixed relay only two athletes per nation run, namely one woman and one man. The men will begin today, completing their rounds and shooting both prone and standing. Afterwards we switch to the woman, who also has to complete this workload. In total, each biathlete has to run twice, so that 8 laps are run. At the end there is the final round. As with every relay race, there are three extra cartridges for the shooting range, so the targets should not be knocked down with the five shots available. If there is still one target left, the penalty loop goes.
