The Berlin State Criminal Police Office warns of a new scam with cryptocurrencies!

According to previous knowledge, the alleged suspects first contacted people by telephone who had suffered losses in cryptocurrency trading.

Later, communication will be continued via email. The suspected fraudsters unjustifiably pretend to be employees of the Berlin police’s central contact point for cybercrime (ZAC) and explain to those affected that they can make up for losses incurred in cryptocurrency trading by paying in advance.

The scammers refer to the requested payment as a loan, which the victims can either pay in a cryptocurrency or hand over in cash. The suspects are said to describe themselves as “recovery agents” and identify themselves with a photo of a Swiss identity card.

The letter sent by e-mail also contains the logos of the Federal Criminal Police Office and the Berlin police.

The investigators advise:

► Refuse (further) contact with the alleged suspects!

► Reject payment requests from scammers!

► File a report with the police!
