Bestseller Group relies on automation

The Danish textile group Bestseller A/S announced further details on Monday about its planned distribution center in Lelystad, the Netherlands.

The facility will have an area of 155,000 square meters and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026, the parent company of brands such as Vero Moda, Jack & Jones and Only said in a statement.

The company had already announced in June 2022 that it wanted to invest two billion Danish crowns (268 million euros) in the project. The Austrian logistics service provider Knapp AG provides the technological equipment.

Allan Kyhe Kjærgaard, the Bestseller group’s head of logistics, explained the project: “As part of our partnership with Knapp, we want to create one of the most automated logistics centers in the fashion industry and across Europe,” he said in a statement. “Investing in technology of this scale will optimize the efficiency of the center and the delivery of products to retail customers in our key markets.”

Through extensive automation, the facility is set to become the best-performing logistics center in the Rekorder Group to date. According to the company, more than 1,400 AI-controlled robots will be used there. At the same time, around 600 highly qualified jobs would be created, the company said.
