Best MMA fighter of all time announces retirement after eleventh (!) title fight won | Martial arts

Amanda Nunes has ended her MMA career. The Brazilian won her eleventh title fight in the UFC at UFC 289. With the victory over Irene Aldana, Nunes solidified her position as the best MMA fighter of all time. ‘The Lioness’ defended her bantamweight championship belt in Vancouver, Canada, while also holding the featherweight title.

It wasn’t exactly an even match. From the first round it became clear that Nunes was class better than her opponent from Mexico. Aldana’s resilience and perseverance was admirable, but she did not claim victory for five rounds. The figures also showed: 152 for 40 striking punches and kicks.

According to many, the 35-year-old Nunes is the best fighter of all time. After her win against Aldana, she holds the record for most wins by female MMA fighters in the UFC (16). In the interview afterwards, she surprised friend and foe with her announcement: ,,This is the perfect evening to announce my retirement. I will forever be champion in two weight classes!”

Canadian folk festival

The return of the most famous MMA organization in Canada was a real spectacle for the home fans. All Canadian fighters won at the Vancouver event. Mike Malott, Marc-Andre Barriault, Jasmine Jasudavicius, Aiemann Zahabi, Kyle Nelson and Diana Belbita all triumphed.

Especially during the main program, the audience was spoiled. Malott (31), still undefeated in the UFC, took his fourth win in a row against Adam Fugitt. He had his opponent tagged out in the second round after a guillotine choke. The Canadian never fought three rounds in his professional career and ended all his matches early: 5 knockouts and 5 submissions.
