Berlin’s health senator hopes for general vaccination

Berlin’s health senator Ulrike Gote (Greens) has strengthened her appeal for general vaccination.

“I very much hope that general vaccination will come from the age of 18, we will need that too,” Gote said in an interview with the newspaper “nd.DerTag” (Monday).

“The pandemic is not over,” she affirmed. There could also be new virus variants. There is no telling how dangerous that would be. Wearing a mask, simple hygiene rules and keeping your distance remained important.

Only if the vaccination gap in Germany is further closed will one be well prepared, Gote said. The institution-related vaccination requirement in the health sector, which will come into force on March 15, is “a first step on the way to general vaccination”.

The implementation will take place “with a sense of proportion” and care will be taken to ensure that the security of supply is guaranteed.

In Berlin, there is the favorable situation that the vaccination rate in hospitals and care facilities is so high that the vaccination gap is not that big there, Gote explained.
