Berlin Thunder no longer has a chance of reaching the final of the European League of Football.

The capital city team lost 3:20 (3:13) in the Frankfurt Galaxy wild card game on Saturday. The game was overshadowed by a collision between a player and a Berlin coach.

Around five and a half minutes before the end, the main referee stopped the game; everyone involved had previously agreed to this. Via X, formerly Twitter and via Instagram, the European League of Football explained that there were “two serious medical situations”. Our thoughts are with those affected and we wish them a speedy recovery. No further details were initially officially given.

In the game, the Berliners only showed themselves to be on par with the hosts in the stadium on Bornheimer Hang for long periods in defense. Berlin head coach Johnny Schmuck’s team was repeatedly inferior on offense and in the special teams.
