If the electricity or drinking water fails, the police and fire brigade don’t know where people with health problems live. Who is ventilated at home? Who is bedridden? Who needs help with an evacuation?

There is no central registration. The association “Notfallregister” now wants to close this life-threatening gap.

“We are creating an information base to be able to organize missions much better,” says Philipp Cachée (39), spokesman for the association. He and his colleagues work in the emergency services, in civil protection and in the districts.

► Registration under www.notfallregister.eu is free. Personal data, accessibility, housing situation, health data, emergency contacts are recorded. Facilities such as retirement and nursing homes or dialysis centers can also make entries.

► In an emergency, the data can only be queried by verified control centers of the fire brigade and rescue service, the police and the disaster and civil protection authorities. Every access and every query is logged.

► If it is used, the control center can enter an address or a residential area and thus find out whether people who need special help live there.

In an emergency, every minute counts! Spokesman Philipp Cachée: “A person who is being ventilated at home was recently affected by a prolonged power outage. She was located by accident and only after hours. With an entry in the emergency register, the rescue could have taken place in a targeted manner.”
