The Berlin concert by the Queens of the Stone Age at the Theater des Westens was planned as the only German stop on their “The Catacombs Tour,” which only plays in a few cities worldwide. Now the gig has to be canceled at short notice.
As the band announced on Instagram a few hours ago, the organizers surprisingly announced that the show on October 23rd on the Charlottenburg stage could not be held. Ticket holders should get their money refunded, but the disappointment is great.
Statement on Instagram: “We were surprised”
A statement on Instagram said: “The concert organizers failed to inform us that it would not be possible to hold our concert at the Theater des Westens as planned.” They themselves were surprised by this, which is why there was no longer any possibility of finding a replacement location, even at such short notice. “We were surprised by this information at such a late stage that it was no longer possible to move the show,” Queens of the Stone Age continue.
The concert was classified as completely sold out, and some fans wanted to travel long distances to experience the unique event. In the comments section of the Instagram post, many expressed their disappointment and anger. QOTSA themselves are also angry: “We are frustrated and shocked by the decisions that have been made. The lack of respect for you, your valuable time and your money that has led to this decision is inexcusable.”
“Alive in the Catacombs”: Tour was supposed to stop in Berlin
In 2024, Queens of the Stone Age played a special unplugged show in the Paris catacombs – surrounded by historical relics. The concert was a project close to the heart of frontman Josh Homme, who at the time was in such poor health due to his cancer that he didn’t know what would happen next for him.
This made the catacomb show not only an intense and intimate experience musically, but also a personal moment – a literal celebration of being alive. “Alive in the Catacombs” was documented audio-visually, was subsequently released on vinyl and as a film and was sold out in a very short time.
After the great success of the performance, the band announced that they would go on a short tour with their mini-album. The five songs from the Paris underground were to be played live for the first time in Berlin’s Theater des Westens on Thursday (October 23rd). But to the great disappointment of the fans and the band themselves, that won’t happen.
Theater des Westens is silent – all other shows are sold out
The Theater des Westens has not yet released a statement about the cancellation. Tickets purchased through Eventim can be refunded. However, there will not be another opportunity to experience “Alive in the Catacombs” live in this country. The band is playing four more acoustic concerts in Europe – but these are already completely sold out.
