Berlin CDU settles accounts with Giffey: “The SPD system is finished”

The Berlin CDU has accused the red-green-red government coalition of failure across the board.

CDU state and parliamentary group leader Kai Wegner used the debate in the House of Representatives on the re-election for general settlement with the Senate. “They ruled themselves broken and didn’t advance our city an inch,” said Wegner.

“Whether it’s red-red-green or red-green-red – the messing around just keeps going.” It’s high time for a new start in Berlin. Wegner called the verdict of the state constitutional court on the complete repetition of the parliamentary election an embarrassment.

“And your party, the SPD, bears the greatest responsibility for this disgrace,” said the opposition politician in the direction of the governing mayor Franziska Giffey (SPD). She has it in writing with the verdict that the Senate is not even able to organize an election. Berliners don’t deserve to be laughed at, Wegner said. The court’s decision is a historic defeat for red-green-red.

Redial must have consequences

“A complete re-election, because the government can’t do it, has never happened in Germany,” said Wegner. And there must be consequences. “As the responsible interior senator, Andreas Geisel ignored all warnings,” criticized the CDU politician.

It is high time for those responsible to actually take responsibility, said Wegner and called on Geisel to resign. Because Giffey stood behind her current building senator, every day that he stays in office also damages the governing mayor. “Ms. Giffey, to restore your credibility, you must finally act.”

Wegner also gave Giffey bad marks with regard to educational policy, housing construction, security in the city and economic development.

“The SPD has been in power for 33 years. For 21 years she has been sitting in the Red City Hall without interruption,” said Wegner. “They have become sluggish, they have worn themselves out. The SPD system is finished.”
