An angler from Berlin died in a boat accident on Sunday in front of his wife on Lake Dobbertin (Ludwigslust-Parchim district in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania).

As a police spokesman said, the 60-year-old man went out on the lake alone in a rowing boat to fish in strong winds and rain on Sunday morning. His wife had observed how the boat suddenly capsized and the man then disappeared.

She called for help. Rescuers came with several vehicles and boats, salvaged the boat and a floating life jacket.

A 60-year-old man was found lifeless under the boat floating above the keel. Rescuers tried to revive the man, but were unsuccessful. An ambulance declared death. Since the circumstances are not exactly clear, a death investigation has been initiated.

The public prosecutor’s office should decide whether the vacationer from Berlin has to be autopsied to clarify the exact cause of death. So far there has been no evidence of external influence.
