“I dream of being the first to cross the finish line.” 29-year-old Bergen resident Ivar Slik is ready for the Egmond-Pier-Egmond beach race. “The race has been canceled for two years, so now it has to happen.”

From the age of ten, Slik saw his grandfather and father participate in Egmond-Pier-Egmond. A magical feeling for the gravel rider. “It’s very alive in the area. For people, this race says more than a gravel race in America.” In 2014, Slik achieved his best performance by finishing fourth.
Tessa Neefjes is European beach race champion and winner of the last edition in 2020. “It’s almost a home game for me, because I live in Wervershoof. It’s a nice atmosphere, because there are people along the line everywhere. You are shouted ahead everywhere I’m extra excited to shine in my European jersey tomorrow.”

Slik’s grandfather is his most loyal fan. “I’m going to have a cup of coffee with him every morning, because he lives next door. He asks every time if I’m in shape for this race. He’s 92, but he’s still watching me closely.”

Egmond-Pier-Egmond starts tomorrow at 10.30 am on the Boulevard Noord in Egmond aan Zee. The first man is expected to cross the finish line around 11.35 am, the first woman is expected five minutes later.
