Benfica: Turkey star Orkun Kökcü from Feyenoord Rotterdam approaching

Already landed in Portugal

From one champion to another: According to media reports, the transfer of Orkun Kökcü from Feyenoord Rotterdam to Benfica Lisbon is about to be completed – and could set several records. The 22-year-old landed in Portugal on Friday evening and is due to complete the medical check-up on Saturday. The Turkish national player is then expected to sign until 2028.

The transfer fee is according to “De Telegraaf“ to 30 million euros, through bonuses and a resale participation, the transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is set at 20 percent, but the sum should be able to exceed 40 million euros. Kökcü would thus become the most expensive Feyenoord exit and also the most expensive entry for Benfica when the basic fee is considered. Enzo Fernández (44.25 million euros) and Darwin Núñez (34 million euros) only later cracked the 30 million mark through resale participations.

Kökcü is also likely to replace Arda Turan (36) as the most expensive Turkish player in history. The 100-time national player switched from Atlético Madrid to FC Barcelona in 2015 for 34 million euros. Kökcü is set to become Benfica’s highest-paid player, receiving three times his Feyenoord salary and his favorite shirt number 10. In addition, his release clause should be set at 120 million euros.

The central midfielder, who scored twelve goals and five assists in 46 games for Feyenoord last season, feels the confidence of Benfica coach Roger Schmidt. In Lisbon, Fredrik Aursnes (27) is also an old acquaintance, with whom Kökcü has played 43 times in midfield at Feyenoord. Kökcü, who is also said to have been impressed by Benfica’s style of play in the Champions League, sees Lisbon as the perfect next step in his career.
